Cutler Announces Grants for Two Watershed Protection Projects in District
January 28, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Bryan Cutler (R-Peach Bottom) today announced two projects in the 100th District have received funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Watershed Protection Program.
Strasburg Borough has received $50,000 for phase two of the Eshelman Run Stream restoration project. The proposed project consists of stabilizing approximately 970 linear
feet of Eshelman Run Stream through site grading, erosion/sediment control and
landscaping, which will aid the borough in best management practices for comprehensive
stormwater management practices.
Stroud Water Research Center, located in Paradise Township, has received $100,000 to improve its monitoring of water quality in Paradise Township. The proposed project activities will be a continuation and improvement of current monitoring efforts and will include the evaluation of physicochemical and biological conditions of three stream sites, two in the treatment watershed and one in the control site. The project activities will consist of water quality sensor installations, water sample collection every two weeks and testing stream health after major weather events.
“This is great news for the 100th District,” said Cutler. “Both projects in question will help preserve our waterways across our communities and makes sure our water is safe. I know this funding will be put to good use.”
The overall goal of the Watershed Restoration and Protection Program (WRPP) is to restore and maintain restored stream sections impaired by the uncontrolled discharge of nonpoint source polluted runoff, and ultimately to remove these streams from the Department of Environmental Protection’s Impaired Waters list.
