Rep. Lawrence to Assume Speaker’s Role in Cutler’s Absence

April 16, 2021

HARRISBURG – As House Speaker Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) continues to quarantine because of a positive COVID-19 test, Rep. John Lawrence (R-Chester/Lancaster) will serve as the speaker pro tempore for House session next week.

“In his time in Harrisburg, Rep. Lawrence has proven himself as a man of integrity and humility,” Cutler said. “John remains steadfastly committed to being an independent and impartial voice of his district and possesses a strong respect and understanding of our House rules. I look forward to watching him oversee our chamber next week.”

Under the rules for the House, the speaker may appoint a member as speaker pro tempore to act in the speaker’s absence.
Cutler will participate in session via remote voting as is permitted under the temporary House rules.
